Regent International School in Gampaha Celebrates 10th Anniversary in September 2011
Regent International College, the premier International School in Gampaha district celebrates its 10th anniversary this month. Regent International College was born on 9th September 2001 catering to the long felt need of high quality English medium education for those in and around Gampaha.
The 10th anniversary celebrations commenced with religious ceremonies; a Whole night Pirith Ceremony was conducted under the patronage of Ven. Wimalawansa Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Siriwardanaramaya – Yakkala followed by Alms Giving on 9th and 10th of September and a Holy Mass conducted by Rev. Father Noel Nonis, the Administrator of the Miriswatta St. Jude’s Church with the participation of the members of the Board of Directors, teachers, parents and students of the college.
As a result of the commitment, dedication and hard work of the management and teachers during the ten year period, Regent, today, is a well equipped school with over 600 students, consisting of all modern facilities required for education in international standards, including well equipped laboratories, modern computer labs, library, swimming pool basketball court built to international standards and children’s play area. Classes from Nursery to London Edexcel O /L and A /L are conducted in a serene learning environment under the guidance of a well qualified staff.
To coincide with the 10th Year Celebrations, The Management of the college with the blessings of the parents, has embarked on a project to enhance the existing facilities with a thousand seat Auditorium which would facilitate in – door games such as Basketball, Badminton and Table Tennis while being the arena for all aesthetic activities of the college
From 2004, with the first batch of students sent from Regent International College for London O /L Examination, there has been a remarkable improvement over the years in the results produced by students of Regent at London O /L and A /L examinations. As a result, the college has been able to successfully maintain almost 100% pass rate at both examinations and a considerable number of students have been able to win the prestigious Edexcel High Achievers’ Awards in the past few years.
The excellent results produced by the students of Regent International College this year at May / June I G C S E Examination are a clear evidence of the improvement of academic performances of our students. 100% pass rate was achieved in all the subjects while over 50% of the students passed the examination with A passes for all main subjects. Three students obtained more than 05 A* grades while most of the others achieved A or B passes for most of their subjects.
Teacher of Regent International College are given the opportunity to undergo Pre School, Primary and Post Graduate Teacher Training at Indira Gandhi National Open University while In - service Teacher Training Programmes are conducted every term in order to equip the teachers of Regent with the modern teaching methodology and to update their knowledge in current trends in education. The child centred approach to teaching with a limited number of children in a class has enabled us to accommodate individual needs of the children in a student friendly classroom environment.
Most of the students who passed out from Regent Int. College are now reading for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in prestigious universities in countries like New Zealand, England, Australia, Singapore and China etc, and some of them are employed in executive positions in Sri Lanka and abroad.
While striving to maintain very high examination oriented international academic standards, we also get our children to take part in a vide range of cultural, religious and sports activities in order to inculcate cultural and religious values in them, and to equip them with the necessary skills to be successful global citizens in future. We make arrangements for our students to celebrate all events such as Sinhala & Hindu New Year, Wesak, Poson and Christmas etc. The Sports Meet, Swimming Meet and the tournaments of other games pave the way to celebrate the special talents of children while the activities such as scouting, Music, Speech & Drama, Chess etc. too are conducted in order to help the development of the well-balanced personality of the students.
An organization that considers service as its priority, all these facilities along with high quality education are provided for an affordable fee structure and in case of a death or a permanent disability of a parent, arrangements have been made to educate the child up to A/L free of charge. There is also a programme to award scholarships to the students who display exceptional abilities in studies and in sports at national level.
